Griffins (Gryphons)

Picture
North American Griffin

According to Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide

The Griffin is a mix of an eagle and a lion. They mainly live in the desert and make their nests in high places although a few have migrated to Europe. They are rarely seen except when out hunting and their bones have often been mistaken for dinosaur fossils. Griffins are the size of a lion. Griffins are rare. They are not effected by dragon poison and despise horses. A hippogriff is a mix of a griffin and a horse and is a sign of enduring love. Griffins can reproduce and their eggs are said to be made of agate.
